Infertility, the signals that should send you to the doctor and when is it "too late"? Dr. Ciprian-Andrei Morariu: "Time NEVER works in anyone's favor!"
Data publicării:
Dr. Ciprian-Andrei Morariu, a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology at SANADOR with a special interest in in vitro fertilization and assisted reproduction, spoke on "Părinți Prezenți," a show hosted by the editor-in-chief of "Părinți și Pitici," Loredana Iriciuc, about infertility.

Infertility, according to Dr. Ciprian-Andrei Morariu, is a situation where a couple faces the inability to conceive a child within a certain period. This period varies depending on the woman's age. According to the doctor, for women under 35, it is considered appropriate to consult a fertility specialist after a year of unsuccessful attempts to conceive. For women over 35, the waiting period is shorter, around 6 months.

"Infertility is the inability of a couple to achieve pregnancy after a certain period. It varies depending on age.

That is, for patients under 35, one year of trying to conceive is considered a suitable time to discuss infertility and visit the gynecologist.

After 35, 6 months are sufficient because it would be good to contact the doctor to achieve pregnancy as soon as possible", dr. Ciprian-Andrei Morariu stated on "Părinți Prezenți", a show by PărințișiPitici.ro.

Dr. Ciprian-Andrei Morariu: "Warning signs usually start from the beginning"

If a year or six months pass and the couple has not achieved pregnancy, should they be alarmed, or panicked? According to the doctor, warning signs should not wait for a year or six months to appear. They can start manifesting from the beginning of the conception process. After just a few months of unsuccessful attempts, many couples begin to wonder if they will ever become parents.

"Warning signs usually start from the beginning. That is, couples, after trying for a relatively short period, one, two, or three months, begin to wonder if they will achieve pregnancy. In reality, a reasonable interval would be 3-6 months to try, after which it would be good to seek advice.

Why?

Because time never works in anyone's favor. In the sense that patients, especially those over 35, struggle with another problem of infertility, related to quality. And we're talking about the quality of the eggs, which is very important, and unfortunately, time doesn't work in their favor", dr. Morariu further explained.

When is it "too late"?

At what age should a woman start considering whether time is against her and when does the chance of conceiving decrease? According to the doctor, there isn't a precise age at which the chance of conceiving automatically decreases. He emphasizes that there are women at the age of 40 who manage to conceive spontaneously. However, when it comes to carrying the pregnancy to term, the situation becomes more complex.

Getting a positive pregnancy test is just the beginning of the journey to becoming a parents. Many face challenges in maintaining a healthy pregnancy and bringing a child into the world. There are cases where women conceive repeatedly, but these pregnancies stop progressing, which can be frustrating and discouraging.

"The chance doesn't necessarily decrease. Because we also have patients at the age of 40 who spontaneously conceive. However, when it comes to pregnancy, the main goal we seek is not just to have a positive pregnancy test but to carry a pregnancy to term.

So, between a positive pregnancy test and the birth of a child, there's a big step. We also have patients who struggle with infertility by repeatedly conceiving, but the pregnancies stop progressing. Even young patients struggle with this problem and some of them resort to assisted human reproduction procedures, in vitro fertilization, for example, and achieve a pregnancy.

At that moment, we partially find the answer to why it didn't happen. We find, exactly as I was telling you, the discussion about egg quality", Dr. Ciprian-Andrei Morariu added.
